I just came across this amazing site a couple days ago:

http://www.shelter-systems.com

They sell dome tents that are easy to put together, relatively light weight, and quite durable.

The site is poorly organized, and there is some cool information on the site that I never found until I did an image search of the site here:

http://images.google.com/images?q=site%3Ashelter-systems.com

The tents are nice looking, evidently easy to set up, and they are pretty cheap as compared with other temporary structures of equivalent size.

Here is a size comparison page:

http://www.shelter-systems.com/sizes.html

...and a page with a ton of photos and testimonials (beware: a little hippie type nudity):

http://www.shelter-systems.com/yurt-dome-testimonials.html

...and here is a page that describes building a model of their design:

http://www.shelter-systems.com/modle.html

I suppose the industrious could build an actual tent from the photos and models on the site, but beating the cost of buying one direct would be hard to do (if you consider labor costs).

Very cool site.

Here is a less elegant solution for those of you without the cash or an industrial sewing machine...

OK, so, we got one...

We go to the Flea Market every Saturday with some friends and put up a booth to answer Bible questions, sell cookies, pies, and fresh bread, Kombucha, Jasmine Tea, Herbal mixes... you name it.

So we got a 20' tent... and set it up... and took it down... and it was really dirty and dusty so we set it up over our trampoline in the back yard and washed it... that was a whole lot of fun!

See photos here:

PS: an interesting thing about these tents is that they are not sewn at all!! They are entirely put together with "Grip Clips" which you can see on the shelter-systems.com website. If you look at the photo, you see the verticies where the frame is attached... at those points the tarp panels are attached to each other with grip clips! All the seems are completely open! The only thing that keeps them "closed" is the tension that the frame provides... very interesting.

It has been an old thread but I still visited that website of tent. I have seen the dome tents and were amazed on them. These are perfect in camping sites.
