Hey just want to let y'all know that we've bought a home that was built in 1951.  It has red oak hardwoods (and some pine) throughout.  My husband has sanded them and refinnished them with 100% tung oil.  It is made from tung nuts.  So if anyone tells you that you have to use MinWax stains and polyurethane just know you don't.  They are high maintenance; they require more upkeep (with a wax).  Tung oil is what many people use to season their wooden cutting boards, so our floors are safe enough to eat off of!
