My husband and I are newly married. He works in construction, but we would like to do something together from our home. Any suggestions?

Thanks Smiley

What kind of construction is your hubby in?  Could he start his own business?  You could be his secretary, or these days the politically correct title is "office manager".  Wink  He could do the physical labor and you could do bookwork?  Just a suggestion.

This is what my hubby did.  (12 years ago)  I am still his secretary. Grin  The "office" is here at home.  He's an electrician.

This is our arrangement too! I'm the secretary of the company and my hubby runs the framing crews.  Sometimes I get to help with the building though.  Then he brags that he gets to come over and smooch the employee! Wink I like getting to help out on the job site and I like knowing I'm such an asset to his business by doing all the paperwork.
We're also getting our feet wet in real estate and I get to be "partner" with him in that. Fun Fun Fun

I recommend starting an internet business.  Wait...it's not as hard as you think!  My 14 year old son recently got a home study course that tells you all you want to know about starting a successful business, and has since started his own website.

It is NOT a get-rich-quick kind of deal.  The course is made by a homeschool dad who started like we have, CHEAP!  Most all the things he recommends are free or very inexpensive (and Christian.  even the web-hosting company he recommends is run by a very nice Christian man whom I have spoken with on the phone), and he explains them all in GREAT detail, so if you are not the greatest at computer stuff, it is perfect for you.  I am quite knowledgeable about computer stuff, and found the course to be very informative, and well done.

There is a book and several CD-based movies that actually give screen-captured lessons showing you exactly how to do what is being described click by click.  It is the whole enchilada (sp?) explaining from how to get your idea, how to register your domain name, how to design a website (with FREE software that he tells you how to obtain), how to upload it to the server (with FREE software) how to get a shopping cart (yes, FREE) and how to optimize your site so the search engines will find you....etc, etc, etc.  EVERYTHING is covered in a nice easy pace.  It really is the best thing that has happened to our family in a while.  Best of all, it is something you can include the entire family in!

There are also lots of free sample videos that you can watch to help you decide if it is for you, as well as a call where a women grills the author on the specifics of the course.  It is WELL worth the cost!

If you are interested, check out my son's review and a link to the course at www.toolsforhomeschools.com/biz

Hello,
Are you wanting to stay in the construction business?
If not, look at some of the trends in business and find something that interests you.
I have been working on billboards for about 12 years. I decided to look for something else as a back-up income. My nephew who is a computer guy told me that VoIP is a new technology I need to look at. I found a company that markets VoIP and found that they had a great deal for someone to develop a back-up income from their home. You might look at them: www.ineedvoip.com
Not for everyone,

My husband and I both work from home. He is a graphic/web designer. He only spends about 15 hours a week on that for now AND we both have a contract doing telesales for a very large (unnamed) corporation. He does customer service/sales and I just do sales for them. We do work from home. All the calls are routed to our line during the hours we choose, so we get to take turns with the boys. He mostly works through the day with a few breaks here and there and I take a few shifts in the evening. It brings in more than enough to keep both of us home and able to play with and teach our boys all day long. There are many companies out there doing this. The service we use is www.Arise.com because they have many companies we are very familiar and comfortable with. It's not exactly building your own business, nor working side by side, but it's a start. It'll get us our land somewhere and build our house someday =)
