Structural Strawbale Building

Here are photos of a structural strawbale building. This means that the structure of the building is straw... not timber frame in-filled with straw bales. These are not legal in most code zones, but nonetheless quite effective and durable...

This is the type of house we are most interested in building. We got a book by Rob Roy, something about "Mortgage Free" which is a very good book about alternative housing. The straw bale house seemed to us to be the cheapest, and easiest to do.

It is easy... and a lot of fun. Tell us when you plan to start. There are all kinds of people that want to have a WellTellMe get-together... and a project like this would be great fun. Especially if maybe everyone could pitch in some money and some effort to the construction fund
Remember "Dan's Bakesale" that Rush Limbaugh put on back in the eighty's or early ninty's... I can see it now... UrbanExodus barn raisings, house buildings... I'm getting excited already!

Hasn't anyone ever heard of the little pig who built his house of straw!

We've been checking out floor plans for a few years now. We found this and immediately loved it. Now we just have to get our house sold and figure out where we're moving to. We love this because everything is central and no one can get lost and forgotten about over the years. There's also plenty of room for plenty of children, for us anyway. We currently have 3 boys in 840sf, so 1800 sf is HUGE! A big bonus on this plan, and good to add to any plan, is a door from the outside into the main shower so muddy boys can clean up first.
Just thought I'd share.
