We recently moved to a new town, and I've scoped out the Farmer's Market here. It is small, and mainly about selling produce and crafts. However, in my old town, I sold cloth diapers at the farmer's market and they went over well.
Now, I was thinking about doing the same, as well as selling cute nursing covers and possibly reuseable nursing pads made w/ bamboo. Do you think they would sell? Would you buy them at the farmer's market? What is a decent price? My diapers were $15 and my swim diapers were $8.
Thanks.

I think that reusable nursing pads are a great idea. They're a whole lot healthier, and there's not the extra waste going to the landfill. I'd buy them, if i was pregnant or nursing. The diapers sound good too. I don't know how nursing covers would do. I can't imagine buying one myself. I'm not very up to date with nursing covers. I've never seen any, aside from the typical baby blanket or cloth diaper, over the shoulder. I wish you well in your endeavours.

Here's an idea- you or your kids collect monarch catapillars and put them in a canning jar with food and water.  You might want to google proper care of a monarch catapillar.  Then you can make brochures on the proper care of them maybe even decorate the jars or top of the jars and sell them at a farmer's market.  You could appeal to Mom's about how this is the perfect kind of pet and they can let it go in just a few weeks etc...

We were going to try this idea today but couldn't seem to find any catapillars.  Usually we see loads of them on the milkweed in the area.

We tried Rebekah's Cookie Mama cookies last week and they went over reasonably well.  Next time I would make just one batch instead of 5!  We sold about 33 cookies for .50 each.

 Hmm, Margaret.

I know homemade aprons and such seem to be getting pretty popular. Or what about recycled projects? I see a lot of those cloth grocery bags, etc.
It's doesn't usually pay to make simple quilts and sell them....maybe for dolls?
Just some of my ramblings.... Wink Hth gets the wheels spinning.

Hmmm Margaret...you're good at sewing...why don't you make doll clothes? I guess that can be kinda tricky, but it might attract some ppl. Hey, can you knit or crochet? If you can..there are soooo many cute hats, scarves, etc you can make for ppl! Just ask 1SillyFrog (Kristen). Cheesy I used to knit...but I stopped. I liked it, but I just didn't persevere. Undecided Speaking of hats...Kristen, I LOVE those hats you knitted for your friends! I want one! Cheesy Grin They are so cute!
OK, to get back on topic, you could knit or crochet clothes or accessories for your dolls that you sell. It doesn't take long for small things like that.
OK, IDK if that helped at all, I just hope it did. Wink

We have been selling crocheted stuffed toys for babies.  I have gotten some really good patterns for rattles and other little toys.  Personally I would never ever in a million years buy anything like that but others do.

Also we have alot of hostas in our yard and splitting them up to sell.  Also tomato seedlings and pepper seedlings.  We actually make a little money!

Just an idea..

Are you referring to the stuff you make or my sister's dolls? I'm not sure...

My daughter has designed a new t-shirt that she is thinking of selling, we were just curious what your opinions would be.

I really like it! I certainly would buy it if I saw one. I found a really neat store in our area that sells only homemade stuff. They get their products from crafters in our area. They didn't think my dolls would sell well (it's not really a toy store), but I think they sell lots of t-shirts. You might look for a store like that in you area.

Hope they sell well!

Stuff people sell at our Farmers Markets:

Maple syrup  - goes like hotcakes except it is alot of work to make!

Soap

Fresh Ground Organic Flour, Organic bread baking mixes  this sells well I think

Natural baby powder

Diaper rash powder natural and medicinal

Seedlings:  all kinds the lady across from me has catnip for sale and people buy it!

Canned goods

Ice Cream!

Fresh baked bread-  sells well

Everyone loves homemade knitted or crocheted washcloths these sell pretty well

Also people like hand knitted or crocheted potholders

Part 2  Smiley

I have sold alot of hats with fall coming up

This lady next to my stand sells homemade toffee it is so good and she makes a killing!  She made $800 over a two day period at one market.

One guy has a organic chicken and grass fed beef stand and he does well

People seem to sell more if they can offer a free sample.   And also business cards and having an online blog or website where they can see your products.  You can get free business cards at Vista Print online you just pay like $4 shipping.

We don't make a ton of money with hand made items BUT this has been super good for my 5 girls who need spending money and an outlet for their passion also a beginners course on small business and handling money is all wrapped up in this experience.  Next year I will let my boys have a stand with produce and the girls can have their hand made things.
