My husband is going to finally get me my
own .22 for target practice. The Ruger I learned on was about 7 pounds and too long and heavy to be comfortable for me, being that I am smaller than average. He is going to Gander mountain with some men from our church, and they are all more urban types, so I wanted to get some advice here before he goes. I will not be there to get a hands-on feel for the gun, and price is definitely an issue.
I came across the Marlin 795 with a synthetic stock.

(Plus, I'm partial to the removable clip over the internal magazine.) The problem is that I've never even held a synthetic. Does anyone have any experience or advice? I want to make sure it still has a good feel - not flimsy and toy-like.
Also, I'm not sure if any of the following is relevant, but in addition to target practice, I plan to take the gun camping. I have 5 children, ages 1-9, so my county demands trigger locks during storage. I also plan to get a 20-gauge at a later date. Thanks!
