after years of using wood, electric, propane for heat, we just put a "Hitzer" coal stove in. we got it half price from Amish dealer, still in box. coal is 5$ a bag, we use about 1-1 1/2 bags a 24 hr period. it heats our 6 bedroom home easily. it is beautiful to look at, no creosote, little ash and very little to do with it except shake couple times a day, add coal few times, dump ash pan once a day. we lucked on the big model, cost us 1200$. smaller model for 7-800$. well worth it. you can cook or heat on the top but stays cool on floor and backside. this one has a window for viewing flame. we love it! it has a blower if you want it but not neccesary.
